How to help your child with phonics at home:
Children in Reception are taught phonics daily, they are introduced to and explore letter sounds and tricky words in a sequential order. We follow the 'Letters and Sounds' document.
You will be sent a letter every Friday which tells you the sounds and tricky words your child has learnt that week. The videos below will help you say the sounds correctly when supporting your child at home, including tricky words.
Phonics should always be fun and multisensory! If you ask your child to write a sound or word, try and be as creative as possible! For example, they could write it with; a stick in mud, chalk, writing in a tray of rice, writing in shaving foam, writing with coloured pens etc.

Fun ideas for phonics
We decided to use our Christmas party as an opportunity for children to consolidate their phonics learning.
The first game we played was 'Find that Sound'. Children danced to the music and then when the music stopped had to choose a sound, one sound was called out and if you had that sound you got a sweet.
We then played pass the parcel but hidden in between the layers of paper were simple CVC words for children to read. Children loved finding out what word they had to read!
