Jack and the Beanstalk - Week 1
We were very excited to receive a surprise.....
We discussed where the beans might have come from and what we should do with them. The children shared their ideas with us.
Golden beans - Arham
The wind blew them in - Charlie
Plant them to make a golden garden - Elias
We were so excited to see what might happen when we planted the beans...we came into school next day to discover a beanstalk had grown. We cannot wait to see who lives at the top if the beanstalk.
The children were surprised and shared their ideas around this.
The beanstalk is bendy cos a guy is moving it around at the top- Hudson
There is agiant at the top but I don't know if he will come down - Ayah
If I drink milk I will be strong enough to climb up the beanstalk - Fatimah
It's taller, it is ginormous - Genevieve
We discovered that there is a giant at the top of the beanstalk and he needs our help to solve problems. We will be working together and waiting to see what each day brings.
Our new half term started off with some very windy weather and in nursery we always embrace all weathers so we made our very own kites and flwe them outside, whay fun we had.

We have also been working hard practising our names this week, our writing is really progressing and we love to challenge ourselves everyday by having a go at writing it.

In maths this week we continued our number journey by consolidating numbers to 5. We recapped our knowledge and did lots of counting groups and learning about the final number in a group being the total number of the group.
In phonics this week we have learned the sound 'u' for umbrella, under and upset. The children have enjoyed playing voice sounds games and Bertha the bus.
Week 2 - Jack and the Beanstalk - Growing
We had a letter from the top of the beanstalk from the giant explaining that fairytale land had run out of onions and garlic and could we plant some in the edible garden in school, this has helped us to begin learning about how plants grow and what they need to make sure they grow well.

We will look after our plants end enjoy watching them grow.
The next day we heard from the giant again and he asked us to use our growing skills and knowledge to plant some individual beanstalks that could be used to make his stronger because he was worried that when we carried the onions and garlic up the beanstalk it wouldn't be strong enough.

We will nurture our beanstalks with love and care and get them growing up towards fairytale land.
In phonics this week we are learning the sound 'r' for rainbow, rabbit and rat. The children enjoyed the blending games to go with this sound.
In maths this week the giant has dropped a chest down the beanstalk that has 6 gold coins in it, a great opportunity for us to learn about the number 6, we loved using the giants treasure to help us learn about the number 6.
World book day - We loved wearing our PJ'S to school and getting cosy with lots of stories. We also joined the other children in the hall to share stories and snacks in our reading cafe. Stories are such an important way to support children in their learning and in nursery we spend everyday using stories to help us create our imaginative ideas.
We also enjoyed doing some observational drawing of giants, we used picture prompts and our own ideas about what giants look like. The children are really noticing details and putting more detailed ideas into their pictures. Take a look at some of our amazing pictures.

Week 3 - Jack and the Beanstalk - Castles.
We received a letter from the giant. Even though we think he's quite scary, we decided to help him with his problem of building a new castle.

Glue and bricks will make a strong one - Ayat
They need a pointy roof. Some do. And glass windows - Genevieve
Made of stones. Use bricks – Ali Asghar
Bricks make castles - Willow
A monster. You find diamonds in a castle
- Safa
Week 4 - More Giant antics
This week we had 2 special days to celebrate. Firstly we had Ramadan day and then we ended the week on the good samaritan day. These days were action packed with lots of activities to make the day special.
Ramadan day we read the book Who is Allah? and the children shared their ideas around the question posed. We created moon and star pictures showcasing our cutting skills and we designed our own mehndi patterns.
For Good Samaritan day we were asked to create friendship bracelets for each other which we loved, we also gave friendly hugs to everyone that needed one.

We did lots of cherry blossom pictures as the trees are beginning to bloom and we enjoyed a little walk around to see it in it's glory.

We also tried the giant's favourite meal...beans on toast.

In maths this week we explored mass and size, particuarly looking at the terms heavy and light. The giant sent us a giant sized tin of beans to show us how they compared to the beans we buy in the supermarket. We also looked at how to use weighing scales, comparing objects. We introduced the terms heavy, light and balanced.

Week 5 - Moral questions
We began the week with a letter form the giant asking us to help him. We read the letter and talked about whether it was ok for Jack and his mum to chop the beanstalk down.

The children all agreed it was not kind and we made some posters to send to Jack to tell him how sad the giant was.
The next day Jack sent a letter to tell us he needed to chop it down. He asked the children what he would use to chop it down and they came up with their ideas.

An axe - Charlie
A sword and a spear- Bertie
A double axe because if you have 2 it will be stronger - Jacob
Chopping it means it breaks - Aqsa
A hammer would knock it down - Safa
Buy lots of swords from the sword shop - Joshua
Your hand could push it over if they are strong - Ayat
We have been busy sending letters in our very special post box, it has a space to post teeny tiny letters, human sized letters and gigantic letters. We love using this area to practice our writing and to send letters to fairytale land. Take a look below at some of the letters we have sent.

In maths this week we are recapping and consolidating our skills, the giant has sent us 2 big bags of coins. We used them to weigh and count.
We ended our week by having an Eid party and celebrating together.
