Our text in nursery this half term is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
Week 1
We came back to school after the holidays to a Wintery wonderland. We noticed that Jack Frost had been busy sparling the ground with his icy fingers. We enjoyed exploring the nursery garden and the Wintery weather throughout the week.

We explored Winter colours, ice blocks, Winter foliage and we really enjoyed crunching the leaves underneath our boots.
Our caterpillar sent a letter to say he was lost and was hiding in our classroom and he needed our help.

Following on from our exciting letter we read our new text The Very Hungry Caterpillar we introduced our text. The children were very excited about this they enjoyed listening to the Caterpillars journey to becoming a butterfly. Something we will continue to explore this half term.
In Maths this week we learned all about number 3, we practised our subatising skills. We will continue to explore the threeness of 3 into next week.
In phonics this week we have learned the sound 'd' for dinosaur, duck, dog and den. We practised our oral blending skills playing the game blend from the box.

The children have enjoyed exploring light on our new table, the children have experimented with a variety of materials on the lightbox to see what happens when they sit on the light.

In topic this week our caterpillar sent another note explaining that he was hungry and needed some more food. He asked us to write some shopping lists which we did together as a modelled write but then we set up our own list writing station which the children have loved. We have seen some lovely mark making.

We have had a masterclass in using the DT area, this will help us to improve our model making skills and learn new ones. It will also help us with our collaborative skills, working together to create master pieces.

We finished our week showcasing our gross motor skills exploring the loose parts play outside. We loved creating walkways and different level climbing equipment. We had a great time.

In maths this week we have been thinking about number 4 by building on our number 3 knowledge. We know if we have 3 and add 1 more we have 4. The children also enjoyed the number rhyme 4 teddy bears to help them with their counting skills.
In topic we had another letter!
The caterpillar needed our help, he said he was full from all the food he had eaten and he wanted to find a safe, cosy place to sleep. The children shared their ideas on the carpet and then created their own ideas of a safe place to sleep through a modelled write.
The caterpillar will be cold in the classroom. - Mahira
He will teleport into a cocoon on a leaf that he has eaten - Bertie

We loved our Laulau session this week. The children explored spirals and circles through the medium of a snail. They created large and small movements with their arms and hands to create their shapes.
Another great Laulau session.
