 English

This half term, we will be reading the book 'War Horse'. We used clues and artefacts to make predictions on the text.

Maths

This half term, we will be looking at multiplication, division and fractions.
So far, we have been learning about prime, squared and cubed numbers.  Over three lessons, we explored prime numbers, squared numbers and cubed numbers. We worked in pairs to create information posters for each skill to display on our maths working wall. When our posters were complete, we used them to help us consolidate our learning during a purple pen activity, checking and improving our understanding as we went. These also helped us when we consolidated our learning by completing our challenges.

 Science

This half term, we are learning about animals including humans.

Lesson 1: 'Let's Say'

The Person: Elizabeth Blackwell -the first woman doctor, determined to help people understand how the human body works.

The Place: A small London hospital, 1858. The city is crowded and dirty; many people are falling ill.

The Problem: A strange sickness is spreading. A child is sick. People don’t understand about germs, hygiene, or how the heart and blood keep us alive. Elizabeth needs help to save the patients and convince others to listen to science!

In this ‘Let’s say lesson, we stepped into Victorian London, 1858, where Elizabeth Blackwell, the first female doctor, faced doubt and challenge in her mission to help the sick.

First, we imagined life inside a small, smoky hospital, exploring how the heart, lungs, and blood keep us alive. Then. we became patients, nurses and townspeople — debating the spread of germs and the importance of hygiene. Finally, we reflected on how Elizabeth’s courage and curiosity changed medicine forever, linking to our science focus on Animals Including Humans.

Lesson 2: I know the stages of human development

This lesson, we learnt about the stages of human growth and development physically. We looked at the major stages of human life.
