Welcome to Year 2
Who are the Y2 team?
Dragonflies class teacher is Mrs. Whitaker Bees class teacher is Mrs. Sharpe
Miss Naaz is the third teacher in Year 2, who is working across Year 2 to focus on closing gaps in learning.
Miss Bruce is the learning support assistant across Year 2.

Important days:
- Bees' PE day is on a Friday.
- Dragonflies' PE day is on a Wednesday
- Both Y2 classes have enrichment on a Tuesday
Spellings
Your child will have been given a spellings booklet (which they keep at home) which has the spellings for each week. Children are tested on a Thursday. Whilst these are done under 'test conditions', they are just to get the children familiar to spelling tests in preparation for KS2. We just want the children to do their best :)
3 Day Read and Phonics
3 Day Read takes place on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
3 Day Read book hand in is on a Wednesday.
3 Day Read book hand out is on a Friday.
Phonics takes place daily.
Other information:
- Children need to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables off by heart and be able to count up in 3's. It would be great if the children could be practising these from home. Year 2 will be given their own log ins to 'Times Table Rock Stars' which they can access from home.
- Topic and homework webs are sent home each half term. These link to the text and topic that drives the whole curriculum for the half term (History, Geography or Science).
