Autumn 2 Learning Journey
This half term our learning is based around the digestive system. We are learning about what happens when we eat our food!
Our Text Focus
Our text this half term is 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl. Throughout our English unit, we will be completing activities using our prediction, retrieval, inference and vocabulary skills linked to the text. By the end of the unit, we will create our own non-chronological reports about chocolate.
Diwali at East Riddlesden Hall
In RE, we are learning about what it means to be a Hindu in Britain today. We were very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the Diwali event at East Riddlesden Hall. Whilst we were there, we learnt about the different ways homes are decorated for Diwali and how Hindus celebrate this festival. We also had the opportunity to explore the grounds.
Prior to our visit, we took part in a Rangoli pattern competition where we had to design our own Rangoli pattern. The winner's design was then printed for visitors of East Riddlesden Hall to colour in! The winner from Year 4 was Arya from Hedgehogs class with her beautiful design.
Science
This half term, we are learning about the digestive system.
We investigated the effects of different liquids on egg shells to see how these liquids would effect our teeth. Here are our results!
This told us that orange juice and Pepsi were not good for our teeth as the egg shell was damaged, whereas milk and water have no effect on our teeth!
In the next lesson, we started learning about the different organs that make up the digestive system. We built the digestive system as a team and tried to figure out what went where!
