In Geography, Year 1 are exploring their local area and mapping what is growing. They are learning about the features of castles, what they were used for, and who lived in them. The children are developing their map skills to locate castles in the UK and are imagining what life might have been like for people living in or near a castle in the past. This topic helps children understand the significance of historical landmarks and how they connect to local and national heritage.
English: Jim and the Beanstalk
In English, Year 1 are enjoying the entertaining story of Jim and the Beanstalk. They are exploring the characters and plot, learning to use descriptive language and the words 'First, Second and Next'. Through writing different instructions for planting, children are writing instructions for Jim's shopping order for the giant.
Mathematics: Time, Money and Direction
In Maths, Year 1 are focusing on time, money and direction. They are exploring how to use mathematical skills using practical, hands-on activities such as setting up shops in class and using clocks. Children are developing their mathematical language, learning terms such as "whole," "three-quarters," "half," and while building their problem-solving skills through fun challenges.
Religious Education: "How Should We Care For Others and The World, and Why Does It Matter?"
In RE, Year 1 are learning about the theme of caring for the world. They are exploring The children are encouraged to think about how they and the world is special and unique and how to care for it. They will be exploring stories from the Bible and Torah.
Science: Plants
In Science, Year 1 are learning about Plants. The children are exploring how to recognise common UK plants. They are discussing what plants need to grow and setting up experiments to find out what different conditions plants need.
RSE: "How Can I Be A Good Friend?"
In RSE, Year 1 are exploring the concept of friendship and how to be a good friend. They are learning about the qualities that make a good friend looking at the words helpful, kind, funny, brave. Through discussions, stories and role-play, children are thinking about how their actions affect others and how they can be kind to each other and recognise good friends. They are also learning about King Charles role as a public figure bringing people together.
People in the Present: King Charles
This half term, Year 1 are learning about King Charles and his role as King. They are exploring his life, responsibilities, and how he works alongside the public. This topic encourages discussion about modern-day royalty, public service, and how individuals contribute to their community and country in positive ways.
Health and Wellbeing: Will I Always Look This Way
In Health and Wellbeing, Year 1 are focusing on lifecycle of humans and animals. Through engaging activities, they are learning about how they have changed since and being babies. They are also discussing how to cope with change how their are people to support them.
This Summer 2 term is bursting with energy, meaningful learning, and joyful discoveries. Our Year 1 children are blossoming beautifully, growing in both confidence and curiosity as they get ready for Year 2!
