The Leaf Thief
The Leaf Thief is our key text for this half term. You can listen to Mr Midgley reading the story here.
Before we read the story, we looked for clues to predict what the book might be about.
Look, the leaves are like in the forest. I think there is a forest.
The squirrel looks like he needs the leaves for his nest.
We know all about squirrels now, where they live, what they like to eat and how they survive in the winter.
More coming soon!
We have also found out about the animals that live locally to us, such as foxes, hedgehogs, badgers and all kinds of birds.
Here we are creating our own hedgehogs from clay.
We have been enjoying working with Joel to find out more about birds and create some observational drawings.
Remembrance Day
We have been finding out about Remembrance Day and why poppies are significant for this time of year. We enjoyed creating our own poppies in different ways.
We watched this wonderful video to help us understand more.
We held 2 minutes of peace in our classroom and reflected on what we had learnt about.
1, 2, 3 and 4
In Maths, we have been finding out about the numerals 1, 2, 3 and 4. We know how to subitise these amounts and can show how many this is on our fingers. We have been thinking about the composition of these amounts too and how they can be split into parts.
Circles and Triangles
We looked at circles and triangles and learnt new vocabulary to help us explain how we can identify these shapes. We have explored with drawing around shapes to create pictures- noticing if the shape is curved or straight.
We found out about the artist Kandinsky and how he uses a lot of circles and triangles in his pictures. We created our own Kandinsky-inspired art.
The Nativity
Introducing Tom and Tessa... we were lucky enough to be supported by our lovely PTA and a very talented parent to get our hands on these crochet dolls to help us with our RE learning.
Our key question in RE this half term is
Why do Christians perform Nativity plays at Christmas?
They delivered a very special story...
We listened to 'The Nativity' in the style of Godly Play and explored the characters and story ourselves. We learnt that the word 'Nativity' means to 'be born'.
We thought about when we were babies, just like Jesus was once and drew pictures of ourselves as a baby. We know that the Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus, we made gifts for our friends, it felt good when we gave them away and made someone feel happy.
Once we knew the story very well, we were able to re-tell it and act it out.
Festive Parent Session
We were excited to welcome some of our grown-ups into our classroom to take part in some festive craft activities.
