History: "I Wonder Where the Nearest Castle Is…"
In History, Year 1 are exploring castles and their fascinating past. They are learning about the features of castles, what they were used for, and who lived in them. The children are developing their map skills to locate castles in the UK and are imagining what life might have been like for people living in or near a castle in the past. This topic helps children understand the significance of historical landmarks and how they connect to local and national heritage.
 
English: Hector and the Big Bad Knight
In English, Year 1 are enjoying the entertaining story of Hector and the Big Bad Knight. They are exploring the characters and plot, learning to use descriptive language and sentence structure to develop their own storytelling skills. Through creative writing activities, children are imagining their own courageous characters and writing about their daring adventures.

Mathematics: Capacity
In Maths, Year 1 are focusing on capacity. They are exploring how to compare, measure, and estimate capacity using practical, hands-on activities. Children are developing their mathematical language, learning terms such as "full," "empty," "more than," and "less than," while building their problem-solving skills through fun challenges.


Religious Education: "Who Do Christians Believe Created the World?"
In RE, Year 1 are learning about Christian beliefs surrounding creation. They are exploring the story of how Christians believe God created the world and reflecting on the beauty and importance of nature. The children are encouraged to think about how we can take care of our world and show respect for living things.

Science: Animals Including Humans
In Science, Year 1 are learning about Animals Including Humans. The children are exploring the differences between various animals and how humans are both similar and different. They are discussing basic needs for survival—including nutrition, hygiene, and exercise—and learning how to take care of their bodies to stay healthy and happy.


RSE: "How Am I Trusted by Others?"
In RSE, Year 1 are exploring the concept of trust and what it means to be trusted by others. They are learning about the qualities that help people become trustworthy, such as honesty, responsibility, and kindness. Through discussions and role-play, children are thinking about how their actions affect others and how they can build trust in friendships and the classroom. They are also learning about Prince William’s role as a trusted public figure and how he earns the respect of others through his actions and leadership.


People in the Present: Prince William
This half term, Year 1 are learning about Prince William and his role in the Royal Family. They are exploring his life, responsibilities, and how he supports charitable causes. This topic encourages discussion about modern-day royalty, public service, and how individuals contribute to their community and country in positive ways.


Health and Wellbeing: Be Healthy, Be Happy (Healthy Me)
In Health and Wellbeing, Year 1 are focusing on how to stay healthy and happy. Through engaging activities, they are learning about balanced diets, the importance of exercise, and ways to care for their bodies and minds. They are also discussing how good habits can help them feel their best every day.
